What are POAPs?

Hello readersđź‘‹

The NFT space is booming so much and so are its applications. Whether used as digital artwork, an avatar, or an in-game asset, the applications of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have grown exponentially over the past few years. One of the applications of NFTs is POAP. But what are POAPs? Let us understand it below.

What are POAPs?

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to track your attendance at all those events you attended like clubhouse parties, discord servers, meetup events, TED talks, or any such event, etc? Now there is, thanks to the creation of NFTs.

All of us have saved tickets to a memorable event like any sporting event, a memorable event, movie tickets, etc. Why not do the same in the metaverse?

POAPs stands for Proof of Attendance Protocol. POAP is a special kind of NFT(ERC-721 token) that is given to all those attendees who attended a particular event. Think of it as badges/tickets you take home from attending an event, but these are recorded on the blockchain.

POAPs are often referred to as " an ecosystem for the preservation of memories ", over time people can accrue a collection of POAPs to document their physical life experiences and activity through cyberspace.

POAP collectors get a unique badge as NFT for the event they attended each with a unique design giving them a collectability aspect and allowing event holders to supply more value. The below image shows all the POAPs collected for an address

You can visit the official poap website and check your collected POAPs.

In order to qualify as a POAP, an NFT needs to come from the POAP's official smart contract. Additionally, the POAP needs to have a custom image and include the metadata for a particular time and event.

What are the benefits of POAPs?

POAPs can serve as digital memorabilia for people, helping them record important events in their lives. POAPs can provide their holders with exclusive access to private communities and events
